The Lowry’s 10th birthday.
Named after famous local painter LS Lowry, and set by the waterside in redeveloped Salford Quays in Greater Manchester, The Lowry is an eye-catching arts centre for the visual and performing arts. To mark its tenth birthday which fell on 28th April 2010, the centre is holding a variety of festivals and events during the year. From children’s events to Glenn Campbell to international artists to The Orchard to Chorus Line, you are sure to find something that inspires at The Lowry. In particular, one of the highpoints of the birthday celebrations was a specially commissioned installation by the New York-based Spencer Tunick involving naked volunteers from across Salford and Manchester. Crowds were amazed!

There’s also the Manchester Literature Festival, which takes place from 14th – 25th October 2010. Travelers will discover a large number of literary events throughout Manchester if they are able to stay longer than a day or two.
