About Treppenlift

Treppenlift is a device installed in a stair case and is used to move a person from one floor to the next. These lifts equipped with seats greatly increase the mobility of old and disabled people as they are able to move on their own without the help of others.

The treppenlift available today have evolved a lot from the ones that were used initially and include a lot of comfortable features such as back rests, arm rests and foot stools. Safety devices like seat belts and sensors have also found its way in newer versions of the treppenlift giving better security while using these lifts. Modern stair lifts may also have a ‘perch’ (a platform to stand on) instead of a seat for the benefit of users (generally senior citizens with knee problem) who prefer a standing position during transportation.

Any good manufacturer will be able to sell a straight treppenlift without needing any specifications of stair height, width etc. But curved stair lifts owing to its unique style in different houses will need definite specifications and will have to be designed exclusively for a customer. An ‘L’ shaped treppenlift can also be bought “off the shelf” since it basically requires only an additional straight rail to be fitted across the joint angle section of the stair case. It is advisable however to ensure that all stair lifts are fitted by professionals to ensure safety.

AC stair lift and DC stair lift refer to treppenlift with distinctive power sources. While an AC stair lift is powered by the regular electric power, DC stair lifts are battery operated lifts. Kosten(cost) and reliability of power supply are the two main determinants that dictates which treppenlift will be best suited to a house.

The average ‘kosten’ of a straight treppenlift works out to be around $4000.00 but the prices can increase depending on the features included. However basic simple straight lifts are available at a cost as less as $2000.00. Curved stair lifts being custom designed will depend on the specifications and features used in the design. Battery powered lifts are higher priced than electric ones and will also incur an additional cost of around $100.00 every 12 months while replacing batteries.

For the price conscious it will be a relief to know that many dealers usually offer to buy back used stair lifts when no longer in use. Such stair lifts are resold in the second user markets at cheaper rates. But such an advantage is not possible in case of curved stair lifts as they are built as per a customer’s unique specifications.
